1st Annual PVCOC Chili Cook-Off
1st Annual Chili Cook-Off 2012!!
Bring your best chili recipe and a competitive spirit and see if you have what it takes to WIN
When: January 29, 2012
Time: Immediately after church service.
Bible Talks will be competing against each other.
Judging will begin at 12pm. Winners will be announced after judging. Judges
Each BT provide the following:
-A chili to be judged. “Hopefully each BT will have a couple of entries” (Please provide enough chili for your BT and guests).
-chips (corn chips)
-cornbread
-rice
-sour cream
-cheese (Lots of Sharp)
-Desserts (variety)
-12pks of Soda/ Case of Water
-SERVING UTENSILS FOR THE CHILI.
- Each BT (including visionaries/campus) needs to provide ONE (1) person to serve food and (2) people for clean-up. Please provide Bruce Facundus (text him at 571-221-1011) with the names of the servers/clean-up people.
- NO CHILDREN (Preteen and below) WILL BE SERVED without a parent or responsible adult present with them.
- CHILI SHOULD BE IN A CROCKPOT OR OTHER DISH THAT CAN BE KEPT WARM THOUGHOUT THE SERVICE.
- Please make sure we have 100% participation when it comes to bringing the food.

Volunteers Canvas Dumfries Promoting Fire Safety
DUMFRIES -- Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. once said, "Life's most persistent and urgent question is: 'What are you doing for others?'" Over 50 HOPE worldwide and Red Cross volunteers hit the streets in the Carls Park, Port of Dumfries, and Williamstown neighborhoods for MLK Day, taking Dr. King’s words to heart. After training and a light breakfast at Rescue Station 3R, the volunteers, with fire safety door hangers in hand, went out into the cold in hopes of raising fire prevention awareness through handing out literature, and one on one discussions with residents.
At the end of the day, volunteers had covered areas from Rose Hill to Cramer’s Ridge, visited 1453 homes, and had 500 one on one conversations with residents about smoke detectors, fire safety in the home, and escape planning.
This is the second year HOPE worldwide’s Potomac Chapter and the Red Cross have worked together going door to door handing out fire safety information, and the organizations plan on continuing this work annually. Kids and seniors alike have fun talking to the locals, and are encouraged by the positive response to their efforts.
